GRINDING AND SHAPING

Belt Grinders, Drills, and Finishing Tools

RADIUSMASTER 2X48" BELT GRINDER

The Radiusmaster is a direct-drive 2x48-inch belt grinder with a 1.5KW motor. It's a rigid, stable, smooth-running machine that's used daily for rough-grinding and profiling blades and fittings.

CLARYX BG PRO V2 2X72" BELT GRINDER

Precision, power, stability and versatility are important qualities to have in grinding and shaping equipment. This 2x72 by Claryx Metal Works possesses all of those qualities. The powerful 2.2KW motor and variable speed drive allow for both aggressive stock-removal work and delicate finishing operations. The rigid chassis accommodates multiple tooling arms and attachments, making this one of the most frequently used tools in my workshop.

BENCH MILL

This bench mill is used for precision drilling and milling of small parts like guards and handle-fittings. I'm still learning how to use this thing but it has already proven its worth to me in getting things flat, even, and straight.

MISCELLANEOUS HAND TOOLS

While specialized machinery contributes essential horsepower to the workshop, miscellaneous hand tools like files, broaches, and sanding sticks find consistent use on every knife I make. There is a tactile reponse that one receives from hand tools that better allows one to feel the shapes, curves, and angles that comprise the final form of whatever he's making. This, to me, is one of the most important aspects of what it means to be handmade.

MORE HAND TOOLS

Because that last photo was just me measuring something.
